Once your lodging and travel dates are confirmed, it’s a good time to book your ski rental. You don’t need to wait until snow starts falling, especially if you’re planning a holiday trip or getting equipment for the whole family.
Aim to reserve several weeks ahead of a holiday visit and about one or two weeks ahead of a quieter midweek trip. If your plans are set and reservations are available, booking sooner gives you one less thing to handle when you arrive.
Breckenridge Resort is already encouraging visitors to arrange winter trips and rentals in advance. Whether you’re returning for another season or planning your first visit, getting your gear sorted early can make the first morning easier.
1. Book Earlier for Holidays and School Breaks
Christmas break, New Year’s, holiday weekends, and spring break are times when travelers are planning mountain vacations together. If your trip falls during one of these periods, arrange your ski rentals in Breckenridge alongside your lodging and lessons.
For the upcoming season, keep these weekends in mind:
- Martin Luther King Jr. weekend: January 16–18, 2027.
- Presidents’ Day weekend: February 13–15, 2027.
- Spring break: Dates vary by school, so consider your own calendar when planning a March trip.
Waiting until you arrive can mean fewer choices in popular sizes and equipment packages. It also adds another stop to an already busy travel day.
If you’re spending Christmas week in Breckenridge with several children, for example, reserve once you know who is skiing, who is snowboarding, and which days everyone will be on the mountain. There’s no need to leave those decisions until the night before.
2. Give Yourself Time to Choose the Right Equipment
Reserving ahead also gives you time to compare equipment packages and ask questions. It gives you time to understand your options and choose equipment that suits your experience.
At Carvers, our ski packages include:
- Sport
- Performance
- Demo
- Kids
Sport equipment is geared toward newer skiers, while Performance equipment suits those progressing beyond the basics. Demo packages offer newer equipment with options for different abilities and conditions.
Are you taking beginner lessons, exploring different trails, or looking for a particular type of ski? Share with us that information with the rental team rather than choosing a package based only on price.
Prefer a board to skis? Our snowboard rentals in Breckenridge are also available for beginners and experienced riders.
You don’t have to know every equipment detail before booking. Tell the staff whether you’re taking your first lesson or already comfortable skiing most runs.
3. Plan Family and Group Rentals Together
Renting for several people takes a little more preparation than booking for yourself. One child may be learning to ski while another wants to snowboard, and the adults may need different equipment packages.
Before making reservations, gather the information requested for each person. This may include height, weight, age, shoe size, and ability level. Check current measurements for children rather than using last winter’s sizes.
Also confirm everyone’s rental dates. Someone arriving a day later or leaving early may need a different reservation from the rest of the group.
For a larger party, contact our team ahead of time to discuss pickup and fittings. Ask whether everyone should arrive together and how much time to allow. Booking online helps with preparation, but each person still needs time to try on boots and have equipment fitted.
4. Pick Up Your Gear Before Your First Mountain Day
If your arrival schedule allows it, collect your equipment the afternoon before you plan to ski or ride. That takes the fitting process out of your first morning and gives you more room to manage breakfast, transportation, and lesson check-in.
At Carvers, you can pick up winter rental equipment after 2 p.m. the day before your first rental day. Check our rental FAQs for pickup and return details, and confirm current hours before heading over.
Try on your boots carefully during the fitting and speak up if something feels uncomfortable. It’s easier to address a fit concern in the shop than after you’ve reached the mountain.
If you’re arriving late and need a morning pickup, work backward from your lesson or planned start time. Allow for fitting, travel, and finding the correct meeting area. Even with a reservation, leave time for everyone to try on boots and get fitted.
5. Check What Your Rental Includes
Before completing your booking, review the package details so you know what you’re getting.
Our standard ski packages include skis, boots, and poles. Helmets are available separately, so include one in your plans if you aren’t bringing your own.
It’s also worth checking your clothing before packing. If you need outerwear, explore our winter clothing rentals. Advance clothing and helmet reservations are available with ski or snowboard equipment packages; standalone rentals are handled on a walk-in basis.
Review cancellation and date-change terms before paying, especially if your travel plans could change. Then confirm the return deadline so you can plan your last afternoon without rushing back unexpectedly.
6. What If You’re Booking a Last-Minute Trip?
A spontaneous ski trip can still come together. Once you know your dates, check the available packages and current reservation requirements instead of waiting until you’re in town.
Carvers welcomes walk-ins, although reserving ahead is recommended. If the online booking window has closed or you have questions about equipment, call the shop at 970-453-0132 to discuss your options.
You may have more rental options during a quieter midweek visit than over a busy holiday week. Arranging rentals before arrival still lets you spend less of your trip comparing packages and figuring out logistics.
